Overview

The Nikon D850 FX-format Digital SLR camera is a revolutionary when it comes to performance and efficiency. It is equipped with a 45.7 MP FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor that has a back-illuminated design for rendering high-quality and clear images, no matter what the lighting condition. Along with the EXPEED 5 image processor, the sensor can shoot up to 51 continuous images at 7 fps. Besides capturing high-resolution stills and HD videos, this camera can also produce amazing time-lapse movies of not only 4K, but also 8K with the Interval Timer Mode. The camera is made of magnesium alloy and designed to resist dust and water, making it suitable for shoots in unfavorable weather conditions. It offers an ergonomic grip for non-stop shooting. A joystick lets you make quick changes in the camera settings and alterations in the focus points. This Nikon camera is powered by an EN-EL15a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery that helps capture up to 1,840 shots on one charge.

Optics and Focus

The Nikon D850 can be used with any Nikon F bayonet mount lenses. It is equipped with the Nikon Advanced Multi-CAM 20K autofocus sensor module with TTL phase detection and fine-tuning. Moreover, among the 153 phase-detection points, there are 99 cross-type sensors and 15 sensors that support f/8. Of the phase-detection points, 55 points are selectable as per your choice of scene composition. In addition, this camera features five AF-area modes: Single-Point AF, Dynamic-Area AF, Group-Area AF, 3D-Tracking, and Auto-Area AF. These modes come in handy for different subjects. The ISO sensitivity of the camera ranges from 64-25,600, which can be extended to 102,400. The shutter of the camera can function at a high speed of 1/8000th of a second.

Screen and Sensor

This DSLR camera from Nikon makes use of a 45.7 MP FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor, which, along with the EXPEED 5 Image Processor, produces imagery that is unmatched in details and clarity. Aiding in scene composition are a 0.75× pentaprism viewfinder that offers 100% coverage and a 3.2-inch tilting LCD screen that offers a rich resolution of 2,359,000 pixels. The LCD also offers 100% screen coverage and a 170° diagonal angle of view. Besides evaluating scenes, you may also use the LCD to make innumerable changes in the camera settings.

Image and Video

The Nikon D850 FX-format camera’s 45.7 MP sensor is capable of capturing stunning photographs of 8256×5504 dpi resolution. The images can be captured in JPEG, RAW, and TIFF formats. As for videos, this digital SLR camera can shoot 4K UHD videos at 30 fps, full HD 1080p videos at 60 fps, and slow-motion full HD footage at 30p. Additionally, you can compose your own high-clarity, professional-level time-lapse videos of both 4K and 8K, which is possible because of the Silent Live View Mode that saves shutter cycles and makes optimum use of the battery power. In the continuous-shooting mode, this camera can capture 51 images in RAW format at a rate of 7 fps.

Other Features

The Nikon D850 DSLR camera has a hot shoe and PC terminal for working with external flashes when shooting in areas with low or no lighting. The external flash can be synchronized with the shutter at 1/250th of a second. Also, there are five flash modes to choose from as per the scene requirement. The integrated self-timer allows you to ready yourself for a group photo. The shutter release can be delayed by up to 20 seconds in this mode. This WiFi-enabled camera can share the captured photos and footage to other devices too. Additionally, the camera comes with SnapBridge for wireless sharing of low-resolution photos and remote live viewing on a mobile device. An optional WT-7a wireless transmitter is the third option for transferring files. An EN-EL15a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery powers this camera.

Control Specifications
ISO Speed: ISO 64 - 25,600 Can also be set to approx. 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, or 1 EV (ISO 32 equivalent) below ISO 64 or to approx. 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 1, or 2 EV (ISO 102,400 equivalent) above ISO 25,600; auto ISO sensitivity control available
ISO Speed:
The ISO speed setting dictates sensitivity to light. The higher the ISO speed, the more sensitive the film or digital sensor is to light. Higher ISOs have the effect of noise in an image. The actual ISO at which the noise occurs varies from camera to camera. Low ISOs are generally used for brighter lighting conditions and high ISOs are often used for low light or action shots.

Exposure Compensation: ±5 EV in increments of 1/3, 1/2 or 1 EV
Exposure Compensation:
Refers to the option for the user to override the internal light meter in the camera to either OVER or UNDER expose based on middle/18% gray. This is especially useful when photographing either extremely white/bright scenes or when in very dark/dimly lit scenarios.
