Overview

The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS Digital Camera provides high-quality images and videos along with convenient media transfer to compatible devices. It has a 40× optical zoom lens integrated at the front, which lets you take pictures at a wide angle and close-up range. The 20.3 MP CMOS sensor works with the DIGIC 8 image processor to produce vibrant images and UHD 4K videos. Also, the Auto Lighting Optimizer maintains the image detail in overexposed areas. The high-speed continuous shooting mode takes burst shots at 7.4 fps, and 10 fps with the AF Lock on. With the 3.0-inch tilting LCD, you can frame the scene from a low angle or flip the screen 180° to capture selfies. The built-in Wi-Fi supports image transfer, while the Bluetooth connectivity allows remote control of the camera along with geotagging. With the Feature Assistant, you get to know the different functions and menus of the camera intuitively.

Optics and Focus

The integrated zoom lens offers 40× optical zoom that is a 35-equivalent focal range of 24–960mm. Also, the lens aperture is also adjustable from f/3.3 to f/6.9. You can select the light metering methods from evaluative, center-weighted average, and spot, and change the exposure compensation of ±3 EV in 1/3-stop increments. The camera acquires focus at a minimum distance of 1.02 cm on wide and 2.01 m on telephoto settings. You can easily track subjects if they go out of frame with the Zoom Framing Assistant. The camera offers a native ISO range of 100–800 that is expandable up to 3200.

Sensor and Screen

The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS camera comes with a 20.3 MP CMOS sensor that produces high-quality photos and videos with vivid detail. Tilt the rear 3.0-inch LCD at 90° for facilitating low-angle shooting or flip it 180° for capturing selfies. You can compose scenes in a 922K-dot resolution with the LCD monitor. The 100% screen coverage ensures accurate framing of the shot without any crop.

Image and Video

The PowerShot SX740 HS digital camera gives a maximum resolution of 5184×2912 pixels to the JPEG still images. In the video mode, the camera offers UHD 4K shooting at 30 fps and 1080 recording at 60 fps. You may also take continuous shots at 7.4 fps, and 10 fps when the AF lock is on. The camera also shoots time-lapse imagery in 4K quality. You can crop a snapshot from the 4K video while retaining its detail. The DIGIC 8 image processor boosts the camera performance to prevent lag during burst shooting and video recording. Moreover, the Auto Lighting Optimizer lowers the brightness level in the blown-out parts of the image to avoid loss in color detail.

Other Features

This Canon Cyber-shot camera has a built-in Wi-Fi that enables photo transfer to smartphones and tablets using the Canon Camera Connect app. The Bluetooth connectivity allows remote camera control as well as geotagging functionality. Use the Image Transfer Utility 2 software to synchronize the camera with your PC for automatic photo and video transfer via Wi-Fi. The built-in flash has a working range of 1.6–16.4 feet at wide angle and 6.6–8.2 on the telephoto setting. This Canon camera also comes with an NB-13L Li-ion battery pack and CB-2LH battery charger.
