    When:
    Sat, Oct 01, 11:30AM - 02:00PM
*FREE RSVP* An Afternoon and Book Signing with Jerry Downs
    Instructor:
    Skill Level:
    Everyone

In Jerry's own words:  I love photography. The thing I love about it the most is that it is such an amazing way to talk about life. I no longer look for pictures. I just enjoy the act of looking. Not everything makes a good picture, but everything is worthy of appreciation. When I find myself in a state of appreciation, wonderful pictures are everywhere.

It’s easy to make the world and its beauty disappear. We are busy. We are on a mission to get where we are going. Who has time to just look at things? After a while, the beauty and wonder of the world begins to loose it's magic. The more we habituate our behavior, the more we think we know it all, the more it all just vanishes into thin air.

This is not just true of taking pictures. It’s true of relationships, our work, our world, ourselves. When there is only one way to see a situation, the ability to make a judgment, a choice, has disappeared. Wonder requires the ability to look at something in a number of different ways. When everything is infinite, there are an infinite number of ways to see everything. When I give a photo presentation, I take great delight in sharing everything that I have learned about photography and, more importantly, everything that this magical medium has taught me about myself.

Following the presentation, Jerry will be signing his latest book, Why You Were Born. National Geographic photographer, Dewitt Jones, in his review of this remarkable book, says, "Jerry is just like his photos. He’s like a kid. He finds beauty everywhere. He is full of wonder. Jerry’s new book is wonder-full. It will make you cry—sometimes because it’s so real and poignant, sometimes because you’re just laughing so hard. It’s beautiful. Everyone should read it. More than once. The world really needs this book."
