In simple terms, a Vertorama is a combination of the already known techniques of Panoramas and HDR photography. In even simpler terms, by stitching together vertical frames and incorporating HDR photography (High Dynamic Range Imaging and Tone Mapping) Padma has managed to present a realistic and complimentary view of an incredibly large structure in a single image.

Photographing the interiors of these massive structures presented photographic problems not readily solved by current and popular photographic techniques. After considerable trials and errors and mentoring from world class Klaus Hermann, Padma refined several techniques to showcase the interiors of churches and cathedrals by capturing the entirety of the altar and ceiling in one image that normally could not be captured in one frame.

By embracing the technique of Vertoramas Padma has been able to capture the beauty and magnificence of these incredible structures.

NJCS: Maximizing Your Storytelling Process with Jay Dickman (Lexar)
    Instructor:
    Jay Dickman
    Skill Level:
    Everyone

We’re visual creatures and we utilize the still image as the foundation for our memories and recollections. This is the power of the still photo. Adding the concept of building a narrative through those still images allows the photographer/story teller to convey a powerful story to their audience, whether in National Geographic or sharing photos from your latest trip.

Jay Dickman will discuss this powerful message of the importance of photography in our lives, sharing that idea of building a narrative, how he uses this idea when shooting a story for National Geographic. This discussion will detail those components of visual narrative.

As a Lexar Elite Photographer of many years, Jay will also speak, from a very real-world position as a location photographer, of the equipment he uses, and why his choice of lens is so critical to capturing the “moment.” In 2016, Jay visited, and shot in, 28 countries, so gear and its reliability is of paramount importance to him.

NJCS: One and Two Light Portraits with Bobbi Lane (Fujifilm, Phottix)
    Instructor:
    Skill Level:
    Everyone

Good lighting is the key to successful portraits and it doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective. So much can be done with just one light that is classic, clean and/or dynamic. Adding a second light as a background, or hair or rim light can add highlights and enhance the image.

What’s important is to understand and use the aspects of light: direction, quality and depth, to define your subject and create the mood. Combine these lighting techniques with the fabulous Fujifilm film simulations in the X Series of cameras and your opportunities for creativity get a boost. Fujifilm has created some amazing options: Acros for dynamic Black and White, Astia for softer smoother tones, and Velvia for strong, bright character portraits among others. You can access these film types either in camera jpegs or using their profiles in ACR.

This is a live shooting demo, tethered to the computer so you can see the results! This class with Bobbi Lane and Lee Varis will help you make stronger, more effective and marketable portraits.
