    Knowing all the science and mathematics behind photography can only take you so far. The art of photography is 90 percent seeing and 10 percent photographing. Students will learn the vital aspects and rules of image composition and graphic design as they apply to taking photographs.

    This class will go over the essentials of white-balance and composition. Learn how to analyze the color temperature of light and how it affects your photographs. Your DSLR camera won't always be able to accurately reproduce colors which is where proper white-balancing comes into play. While there might be preset white-balance options in your camera, you will learn how to set up a custom white-balance enabling you to get the proper color in any lighting situation.

    Join Adobe Certified Instructor Blake Taylor for this intensive 5-week, hands-on class that will introduce you to the latest version of Adobe Photoshop CC! Even if this is the very first time you’ve ever worked in Photoshop, the class will start with the very basics. You'll learn how to open up Photoshop and how to bring a Raw image into Photoshop by way of Camera Raw, as well as the basics of image enhancements.

    Once you are comfortable with the basics, you will begin to learn more advanced techniques, from creating selections and masks in order to enhance just parts of a photo, to learning about blending modes, to creating adjustment layers. You will also spend lots of time experimenting on your own with your personal photos. By the end of the 5 weeks, you will have lots of information so that you can better teach yourself how to make your photos look their best!

  • Understanding Your Camera I: The Basics

    You have a digital camera and you know that the images are going to be far superior to the ones captured by your point-and-shoot camera, but maybe you're not sure how that happens.  This class is for beginners to amateur photographers looking to gain a better understanding of the automated modes and features, as well as the manual control and capabilities, of your digital SLR or mirrorless camera.

    Get instruction on the importance of understanding the fundamentals (such as depth of field, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation, metering, white balance, reading histograms, on camera flashes, lenses) and how they will affect your photos!

    In the second half of the class, the students will work with their cameras and apply what they have learned.  The buttons and settings will be much easier to manipulate and each student will have develop the ability to capture the images closer to their vision.

    Infrared photography is now getting more popular since digital camera sensors can reveal infrared light which is invisible to the human eye. Infrared photos provide a very special atmosphere which cannot easily achieved with regular light photography.  

    Join photographer Martin Bluhm and learn all about it! This class includes infrared filter techniques, infrared and full spectrum camera conversions, and different applications for infrared photography. The second portion of the class shows you how to post-process infrared RAW files into false color or black and white photos. Martin will also mentions ways to create infrared-like photos from regular color photos.
