    Knowing all the science and mathematics behind photography can only take you so far. The art of photography is 90 percent seeing and 10 percent photographing. Students will learn the vital aspects and rules of image composition and graphic design as they apply to taking photographs.

    This class will go over the essentials of white-balance and composition. Learn how to analyze the color temperature of light and how it affects your photographs. Your DSLR camera won't always be able to accurately reproduce colors which is where proper white-balancing comes into play.     Storm King Art Center’s distinguished collection comprises more than 100 sculptures by some of the most acclaimed artists of our era. Works at Storm King encompass the years from post-World War II to the present and include gifts, acquisitions, specially commissioned site-specific works, and loans. While the focus of the collection has been on large-scale abstract sculpture, much of it in steel, it also includes figurative work and sculpture in stone, earth, and other materials.

    This a a great opportunity to get better at photographing sports! Michael will begin with a brief seminar and show you how to shoot from different vantage points. A desire to hang out with other photographers and flex your quick response muscle is all that is required! Michael will also cover photographing fireworks, including typical settings and positions, before the pyrotechnic show begins.

    Meet up at the East Point Lighthouse (10 Lighthouse Rd, Heislerville, NJ 08324)! The owner will give the group a private tour of the Lighthouse and property. Afterwards, Jennifer will go over useful apps, how she plans her shoots, gear, camera settings, and shooting techniques. Attendees need to bring a fast wide angle lens, sturdy tripod (no travel ones), a corded remote that simply locks, DSLR camera, head lamp, warm clothes, and hiking boots.

  • Iceland and Its Highlands Photo Excursion with AIP

    This year’s trip will feature two Mercedes Sprinter Vans with gigantic tires, which will be key to reaching the best locations in the Highlands. Two vehicles also provides the ability to break into different groups; those interested in the more strenuous hikes and those looking for more relaxed access. Either way, you'll get the best of the Iceland Highlands!

  • Macro and Fireworks at Longwood Gardens with Michael Downey

    It's a fine time to exercise your macro photography at Longwood Gardens with Michael Downey! Their Conservatory is one of the world's great greenhouse structures and shelters 20 indoor gardens and 5,500 types of plants. At present, there are 195,668 square feet—or 4.5 acres—of covered display, production, and research greenhouses.

    Once everyone has met up with Michael, he will distribute tickets and then begin the seminar. He'll go over settings, techniques, and tips for photographing flowers and fireworks, as well as macro photography. Michael will also have some accessories and tools that will help you get the best photos possible! A leisurely stroll through the display areas takes about 1½ hours and covers about ½ mile.

    As it gets darker, we'll find our reserved seats to enjoy and photograph the 9:15pm Fireworks & Fountains show of the evening: Swan Lake. Fireworks fly, fountains dance, and music sets the tone during these captivating shows.
