  • Understanding Your Camera III: White Balance and Composition

    Class Code: UUU201

    Instructor:
    Michael Downey
    Skill Level:
    Beginner

Knowing all the science and mathematics behind photography can only take you so far. The art of photography is 90 percent seeing and 10 percent photographing. Students will learn the vital aspects and rules of image composition and graphic design as they apply to taking photographs.

This class will go over the essentials of white-balance and composition. Learn how to analyze the color temperature of light and how it affects your photographs. Your DSLR camera won't always be able to accurately reproduce colors which is where proper white-balancing comes into play. While there might be preset white-balance options in your camera, you will learn how to set up a custom white-balance enabling you to get the proper color in any lighting situation.

  • EXPO: Low-stress Guide to Posing the Bride and Groom with Neil van Niekerk

    Class Code: UUU7221

    Instructor:
    Neil Van Niekerk
    Skill Level:
    Everyone

Instead of just memorizing 20 (or 30) poses, we're going to look more at the thought-process, and give you a method to get great photographs of the bride and groom, with a variety of poses. The problem with the "30 Great Wedding Poses” approach, is that you still need to adapt them to the couple's personalities and physique... as well as the place where you are photographing them. This includes the terrain, buildings, weather and the light! So many variables, yet we need to be flexible and creative.

On the wedding day, the time-line always gets compressed. Things run late, but the reception will start on time. And this means the photographer's time with the couple (and bridal party) is shorter than originally planned. So it counts in our favor if we can easily get great portraits of the couple, without *us* appearing stressed. Cool and in command, instilling confidence in your couple.
