Overview

Revisit history of medium format photography with the Fujifilm GFX 50R Mirrorless Digital Camera. A Fujifilm GF 32–64mm f/4 R zoom lens is provided with the camera. The camera has a 43.8×32.9mm medium format CMOS sensor that works with the X-Processor Pro engine to capture high-quality images with accurate colors and smooth skin tones. Additionally, the image processor accelerates the image rendering to reduce lag during 3 fps continuous shooting and Full HD video recording. With the 35mm format mode, the camera takes cropped images having an area of 36.0mm×24.0mm. The 3.2-inch touchscreen LCD with tilting action makes it easy to frame the shot from different angles. Dedicated mechanical exposure compensation and shutter speed dials ensure precise exposure adjustment. The dual SD card slots let you record videos and click photos for an extended period. You can assign a particular action to the function buttons to design the control layout as per your liking. The camera chassis is freezeproof, dustproof, and waterproof, thus making it an ideal choice for outdoor photography.

Optics and Focus

The Fujifilm GFX 50R is paired with the Fujifilm GF 32–64mm f/4 R zoom lens that lets you shift from a wide-angle to a telephoto perspective. The optical design of the lens uses 14 elements in 11 groups. There are three aspherical, two super Extra-low Dispersion, and a single Extra-low Dispersion element in the lens construction to reduce various distortions throughout the zoom range. The front fluorine-coated element makes it easy to wipe dust and moisture off it. This Fujifilm zoom lens has a linear AF motor housed internally to ensure silent autofocus while maintaining the overall length of the barrel. You can adjust the opening of the 9-blade diaphragm with the physical aperture ring. The camera employs the TTL contrast detection AF system that has selectable focus zones in three settings for accurate focus. Use the Touch AF function to switch between different focus points swiftly. The manual focus mode also easy to use thanks to the focus peaking function.

Sensor and Screen

At the heart of the Fujifilm GFX 50R camera sits a 43.8×32.9mm medium format CMOS sensor providing an effective resolution of 51.4 MP. Its enhanced light-gathering capabilities sharpen the image detail as well as give a wide dynamic range of 14 stops. Frame the scene in a 2.36M-dot resolution live view with the 3.2-inch tilting LCD. You may also look through the OLED electronic viewfinder, which provides a 3.69M-dot resolution, for composing the scene from the eye-level. The EVF and LCD offer 100% coverage of the screen.

Image and Video

With the Fujifilm GFX 50R mirrorless camera, you can click photos with a maximum resolution of 8256×6192 pixels in JPEG and RAW. The in-camera RAW conversion allows you to streamline the post-processing workflow to obtain desired results. As for the video recording, the camera shoots 1080p at 30 fps in MOV format. The X-Processor Pro engine enhances the system performance to support the 3 fps burst shooting. Other camera functions such as the autofocus system are benefited by the image processor to ensure a quick response. One of the 15 film simulation modes can be applied to the pictures, which makes them look as if captured using classic Fujifilm rolls.

Other Features

The camera features Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for allowing you to offload the captured images to the smartphone automatically. Add geographical information to the photos by pairing the camera with your smartphone's GPS. With the drive button, you can select the shooting modes that include burst shooting, auto bracketing, and video. The dual SD slots extend the shooting duration of the camera to eliminate the downtime of transferring the files to a portable system. Fujifilm has stayed true to its roots by incorporating the physical exposure compensation and shutter speed dials that allow accurate exposure adjustment in the manual mode. Flash photography is possible by mounting an electronic flash on the top hot shoe. The camera body is resistant to dust, moisture, and extreme temperatures down to 10°C. Per charge of the included NP-T125 Li-ion battery, the camera can click up to 400 frames approximately.
