    Photography at the Wolf Conservation Center

    Join Michael Downey for our first trip to the Wolf Conservation Center (WCC) in South Salem, NY! The WCC is home for up to 30 wolves, four of which are "Ambassadors" whose presence helps visitors understand the importance of wild wolves. In addition, several red and Mexican gray wolves also reside at the center as part of their Species Survival Plan (SSP) program to help conserve threatened and endangered species. You'll have a chance to capture photographs from port holes and an elevated tower.

    Seminar at Unique: Fri, Nov. 17th (6pm - 7:30pm)
    Excursion to WCC: Sun, Nov. 19th (7:30am - 12:30pm)

    *Transportation is included. Bus will leave from Unique promptly at 7:30am and return at approximately 12:30pm.

    Introduction to Photoshop with Adobe Certified Instructor Blake Taylor

    If you are crunched for time and want to learn as much as you can about Photoshop as fast as you can, then this is the course for you! Learn the Basics of Photoshop with Certified Adobe Instructor Blake Taylor! Blake will review the essential tools to enhance your photographs.

    NOTE: Practice images will be provided. You will receive a take home booklet to reference when needed.

    WHAT TO BRING: Please bring 1-2 images you would like to work on. Each student will need a notebook (paper) and some type of storage and transfer media for image files to bring to and from class. Thumb drives or external pocket hard drives are all suitable. I would suggest nothing less than 4 gigabyte thumbdrive storage capacity with USB or Firewire connectivity. CD’s and DVD’s are not recommended for transferring digital media to and from class. The fastest storage media is either a thumb drive or pocket hard drive.

    *Seating is limited to 14 students.
    *Our digital lab has MAC desktops. If you'd prefer to bring your own laptop, please let us know ahead of time by emailing university@uniquephoto.com.

    Getting Started with Studio Portraits with Joe Brady

    Classic portrait lighting is something that every portrait photographer should know. Join host and Sony Artisan Joe Brady as he show how and why you want to consider making the jump up to studio monolights from standard on-camera flashes.

    From one to four or more lights on a portrait set, learn how to place and measure lights and how different light shapers affect the quality and intensity of light on your subject. You’ll see how to create shape and dimension to flatter your subject and learn how to create a portrait that sets a mood and tells a story that your clients will love.

    In addition to creating classic lighting sets, Joe will then share some tips for creating headshots and share some light shapers that are great for creating dramatic lighting effects!

    Seminar: Sunday, November 19th (3:00pm - 5:00pm)
    Learn special techniques, tools, and settings to bring out the best in your photos of night-time subjects. Topics include: choosing a dark location; selecting a suitable subject; night Sky apps for your phone and PC; recommended lenses and equipment; camera settings; light sources; foreground and light painting; Lightroom and Photoshop post-processing.

    Outdoor Shoot: Sunday, November 19th (6:00pm - 8:00pm)
    With the lessons from the seminar in mind, you'll travel to the Sheep Hill Observatory (300 Ross Dr, Boonton, NJ 07005) to meet up with Jim and the rest of the group. It's only about 20 minutes away from Unique, and you'll practice shooting the observatory building and night sky with Jim's help.

    *Transportation to the shoot location is NOT included.
    *Please dress for the cold weather. No open shoes.
    *Bring a headlamp or flashlight.
    *Bring a camera and tripod.
    *There will be limited parking at the Observatory. Carpooling is encouraged.
