overview

The Sony RX100 VI CyberShot Digital Camera brings the power of 4K shooting to your palms. This camera has a fixed ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens that offers 8.33× optical zoom. The camera uses a 20.1 MP Exmor RS BSI CMOS sensor to produce detailed photos and videos. Also, the BIONZ X image processor and Front-End LSI enhance the picture quality and the overall camera performance. The camera also takes continuous shots at 24 fps. You can capture low- or high-angle shots with the 921.6K-dot tilting LCD. The built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options facilitate sharing of images to smartphones and remote-control the camera.

Optics and Focus

The built-in ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens comes with 15 elements in 12 groups. A total of 8 ED elements are included in the optical construction to reduce chromatic anomalies. You can set the maximum aperture to f/2.8 on wide setting and 4.5 on telephoto setting. The lens offers an optical zoom of 8.33× and clear image zoom of 16×. This Sony digital camera employs the on-sensor phase-detection AF system that includes 315 autofocus points covering 65% of the imaging area. The included AF-A mode allows the camera to switch between AF-S and AF-C mode automatically. With the anti-distortion electronic shutter, the camera enables the silent, fast shutter speed of up to 1/32000th of a second.

Sensor and Screen

The 20.1 MP Exmor RS BSI CMOS sensor provides high-resolution imagery of up to ISO 12800. Tilt the 3.0-inch 921.6k-dot LCD to take a shot from a high or low angle. Also, the touchscreen functionality permits easy navigation through different menus and media. You may tap on a particular point on the screen to set the focus or click a picture. The OLED electronic viewfinder lets you compose the scene in 2.36m-dot resolution. Additionally, the EVF has a ZEISS T* coating that reduces glare for comfortable viewing. Both the LCD and EVF cover 100% of the screen for an accurate composition.

Image and Video

The RX-100 Mark VI supports UHD 4K shooting at a frame rate of 30 fps. You may choose the Full HD 1080p option that offers a maximum frame rate of 60 fps. In the photo mode, the camera takes pictures at a maximum resolution of 5472×3648 pixels. The BIONZ X image processor boosts the camera performance to support 4K shooting and 24 fps continuous image capture. With S-Log3 and HLG gamma settings, you can record videos with a high dynamic range to add LUTs for post-production color grading.

Other Features

This Sony camera comes with Wi-Fi connectivity to allow wireless photo transfers to smartphones and remote-control via an app. You may use the Bluetooth function to embed the location data from your mobile to the image. The pop-up flash offers an effective range of 1.31–19.36 feet on the wide setting and 3.28–10.17 feet on the telephoto setting. With the manual click-less control ring, you can quickly change the camera mode without making any sound. The custom buttons allow you to set the often-used functions for quick access.

Elements / Groups:
The individual pieces of glass that form the overall optical construction. Most lenses have between four and eleven elements to bend the light rays to ensure a perfectly formed image appears on the light sensitive surface, such as a film or CCD. The elements are arranged in groups and may be seen in specification sheets as, for example, 6 elements in 4 groups. That configuration may have two single elements and the other four grouped in pairs.
