Does Canon have a 75MP sensor up their sleeves?

36MP is so yesterday...41MP? Pssh, might as well be shooting with a toaster. How does a 75MP sensor sound? Well, that's what the internet soothsayers are predicting from Canon thanks to a patent that popped up on a Japanese website. Judging from the vague schematics, sources are assuming that it will not be a traditional Bayer-type sensor...instead they're testing out a stacked three-layer design which captures 25MP for each individual color: Red Green and Blue. The idea behind this type of sensor is that it will potentially allow more accurate color information, as well as a MASSIVE file size. The idea of a stacked sensor isn't exactly brand new (see: Sigma's Foveon Sensor), but it's interesting to see Canon moving away from their tried and true 18MP sensor onto something as crazy as this.

In other patent rummaging, it looks like Canon will also introduce a new version of the popular 50mm f1.8 lens, this time with the gracing of image stabilization. The nifty 50 might get a little more niftier! Will either of these predictions come true?
